Middlesex, NJ - Muriel "Merkie" Chamberlin passed away at Bridgeway Care Center on March 30, 2018. Born in Plainfield to the late George and Violet Schacht, Merkie grew up in Fanwood. She, her late husband, Bud, who passed away in 1985, and their children settled to Middlesex in 1960. Merkie, a graduate of Averett College, worked at Logos Publishing, then Margrace, Inc., and retired as an Administrative Assistant from SS White Technologies. Merkie enjoyed working, and was employed full time until the age of 80, and part time another four years. She was both a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader when her children were younger. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and loved animals. Merkie was happiest when sharing time with family and friends. Additionally, she was a founding member of Middlesex Presbyterian Church, and FISH, Inc., Dunellen Area, a non-profit organization that feeds and clothes those in need. Merkie leaves behind her loving children; son Bud and his wife Rita (FL), son Bill and his wife Nancy (NJ), and daughter Sheri and her husband Gregg (NJ). Merkie will be dearly missed by her brother Bill and his wife Jan (NJ), and four adored grandchildren; Alyssa, Buddy, Billy and Bobby. A memorial service honoring Merkie's life will be held at Middlesex Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The family will receive visitors at 10:30 am, with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to FISH, Inc., Dunellen Area, P.O. Box 8565, Piscataway, NJ 08854 or Middlesex Presbyterian Church, 1190 Mountain Ave., Middlesex, NJ 08846.
