Obituary of Thomas R. Gouge
Old Bridge, NJ – Thomas “Tom” Gouge, 86, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his bedside on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Born in Cranberry, NC to the late Thomas and Bertha (Hughes) Gouge, Tom lived in Edison and Metuchen, Piscataway for thirty-eight years and spent two years in Florida prior to settling back to NJ in August of 2023.
A very skilled craftsman, Tom enjoyed working with his hands as a self-employed sub-contractor. He enjoyed carpentry, making cabinets, gardening and planting flowers. Tom loved listening to Country Western music and his true passion was spent preparing special occasion and holiday meals for his family.
Predeceased by his daughter Miriam Torres and grandson Little Willie, Tom leaves behind his loving wife of almost forty-one years, Violet, children; Tina Hewell-Braun (Robert) of South Carolina, Thomas, Jr. (Debbie) of Virginia and Ruthie Balut (James) of Old Bridge and sister Betty Jo Cloninger of Michigan and her children; Oscar Lee Cloninger and his wife Kathy and Kenneth Cloninger and his wife Priscilla and Lucia Hicks. He also is survived by his grandchildren; Jessica, Trina, Iris, Travis, and Jimmy, Jr. as well as great-grandchildren; Savannah, Nathan, Jacob, Amerie, Lincoln Douglas and Violet Quinn as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Thursday, November 14, 2024 beginning 10:00am. Concluding prayers will begin at 10:30am and mausoleum entombment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
