Obituary of John J Burns
South Plainfield, NJ – John J. Burns, 74, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at RWJ University Hospital at Somerset in Somerville. Born in Scranton, PA to the late John and Grace (Gibbons) Burns, he lived in South Plainfield and Vernon, CT prior to settling back in South Plainfield in 2008.
After graduating South Plainfield High School, he continued his studies at Belknap College located in Center Harbor, NH and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelors Science Degree in Business Administration. Working in sales his entire life, John retired from AmeriFleet in Piscataway.
John, also known as Timmy, JB, Jack or Grampy enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed completing cross word puzzles as well as watching Formula 1 Racing.
Predeceased by his brother-in-law John Sillup and niece Laura Boyce, John is survived by his wife MaryAnn; son, Charlie and his wife Kate of South Carolina, daughter, Jackie Arnet and her husband Mark of CT; step-daughters Kristin Niederman and her husband Seth and Allie Ronzo and her husband Joe as well as his step-son, Brian Acrin and his wife Genevieve.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Emilia, Nate, Joseph, Noah, Angelina, Cole and Brian as well as a grandson expected in May; his sisters, Joyce Sillup and Trish Boyce and her husband Howard and his nieces and nephews, Joshua, Adam and Rebecca.
A gathering honoring John’s life will be held at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 2 to 4pm. A concluding prayer service will begin at 3:30PM.
